Marlene de Vries is Project Coordinator of the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Research Study in the Department of Psychiatry. She holds undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Social Work from Stellenbosch University.

With a professional background in social work, Marlene’s interest in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) developed through her work with high-risk children in NGO settings, many of whom were in foster or alternative care. She joined the FASD research team in 2008.
