TEACHING INTERESTS
In 1st year chemistry (Chemistry 124), I teach the first four weeks of general chemistry which includes naming of ionic compounds and molecular compounds, balancing of equations, stoichiometry and more. Apart from that I co-manage the online learning environment for quizes, practical reports and exams.
I teach a small contribution to Medicinal Chemistry for 3rd year students, where I focus on the role of polymers in medicinal chemistry. This includes their traditional role as excipient, coating, etc, but also more advanced applications in drug delivery, e.g. employing the concepts pioneered by Helmut Ringsdorf as well as the enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect.
During the BSc Honours in Polymer Science, I am the main responsible person for the Polymer Chemistry module. In this module I teach the general concepts of step growth versus chain growth and more specifically, the details of radical polymerization in all its different forms. In addition, I focus on step growth polymerization for linear chains as well as for crosslinking systems. A strong focus in the course is on kinetics and on the development of molar mass distribution.
