OVERVIEW
Dr Thabisisani Ndhlovu is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology at Stellenbosch University. His work focuses on applied conservation ecology, ecological restoration, invasive alien species, vegetation dynamics, rangeland ecology, soil seed-bank ecology, biodiversity evidence and climate-change adaptation in southern Africa.
His current research is centred on vegetation recovery and restoration processes on Robben Island following the control of invasive European rabbits. This work builds on his doctoral research on vegetation response to invasive mammal control on South African offshore islands, with particular attention to plant community change, species diversity, grazing capacity, restoration trajectories and evidence-based management.
His broader research experience includes rangeland restoration and alien plant clearing in semi-arid Nama Karoo systems, vegetation–soil relationships in riverine ecosystems, ecological monitoring, baseline studies, biodiversity-sector support and climate-adaptation project development. Across these areas, his work links field ecology, applied restoration science and practical conservation decision-making. He holds a PhD in Ecological Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and an MSc in Conservation Ecology from Stellenbosch University.
