OVERVIEW
I work as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the CoCreate Research Equity Hub, led by Prof. Lynn Hendricks, in the Division of Health Systems and Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. My research focuses on global mental health, health equity, and diversity, with particular interests in the availability and accessibility of (mental) healthcare, help-seeking behaviours, experiences of care, migration, language barriers, and, more broadly, the social and environmental determinants of (mental) health. My current research explores mental health experiences and help-seeking pathways among young mxn in rural South Africa, as well as the potential of nature-based social prescribing to improve mental well-being, using participatory and creative research approaches.
I am a clinical psychologist and hold a PhD from the University of Hamburg and University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. I have conducted research in several countries, including Germany, South Africa, Denmark, Switzerland, and Canada. My methodological expertise includes qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and participatory research, with a particular interest in working collaboratively with individuals and communities to contribute to more equitable and context-sensitive approaches to health and well-being.
