Dr Matthew Olckers is a senior researcher in the Department of Economics at Stellenbosch University, specialising in development economics and household finance. His research uses a broad range of methods, including field experiments, machine learning, mechanism design, and qualitative analysis. Before joining Stellenbosch University, Matthew held research fellowships at Macquarie University, UNSW Sydney, and Monash University. He serves on the leadership of EAAMO, a global community of researchers working towards equity and access. Matthew received his PhD in economics from the Paris School of Economics and his undergraduate degree from the University of Cape Town.
