OVERVIEW
I am an educational researcher with expertise in applied linguistics, child language and literacy development, bilingualism, and multilingualism. I have a PhD in Languages, Linguistics and Literature from Unisa. My work focuses on language and literacy development, especially among bilingual children learning to read and write in an African language or an additional language such as English. I am also dedicated to employing quantitative statistical methods and developing language and literacy assessments tailored to African languages. Currently, I am part of the Child Language Development Node of the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) at Stellenbosch University, working on developing and adapting language measurement tools for all South Africa’s official languages, aiming to inform the development of valid language diagnostic tools, particularly for our African languages, and providing necessary interventions to promote language and cognitive development in South Africa’s children.
