OVERVIEW
I am an experienced research professor redefining science communication for social justice in Africa. My background is in Media and Communications, and I hold a PhD in this subject from the London School of Economics (2009). As well as this I hold a PGCHE (LSE), an MA in Creative Writing (Wits), and an MA in Media Studies (UCT).
My practical skills, aside from research and writing, include creative communications design and planning, budget management, collaborative project implementation, strategic communications, and data analysis. I have advanced expertise across social research methods, cultural and social theory and analysis, pedagogy, assessment and research design and implementation.
I am the past President of the South African Communications Association (SACOMM) - 2023-2025.
My monographs are: African Luxury Branding; Garbage in Popular Culture; Consumption Media and the Global South; and Consumer Culture and the Media. I am working on a new sole-authored book about the relation between science communication and gendered promotional culture.
