OVERVIEW
Dr. Alemayehu A. Tsige is a computational biosystems engineer specializing in multiphysics modelling and virtual prototyping of fresh produce packaging and cold chain systems. His research integrates transport phenomena, postharvest physiology, and data-informed engineering to improve quality preservation, reduce postharvest losses, and enhance energy and material efficiency in horticultural supply chains.
His work combines diffusion–reaction modelling, CFD-based airflow and gas distribution analysis, X-ray micro/nano-CT structural characterization, and experimental validation to address internal gas dynamics, storage disorders, and treatment gas delivery in pome fruit and table grapes. By bridging mechanistic fruit-scale models with system-scale cold chain simulations, his research advances predictive, model-based decision tools for controlled atmosphere (CA/DCA) storage, SO₂ delivery strategies, and packaging optimization.
