My research focusses on the evolution and diversification of the Cape flora, and more specifically the Cape paper daisies, using massively-parallel sequenced DNA. My work is integrative, and encompasses taxonomic research, molecular phylogenetics, and phylogenetic methods research. My PhD focussed on extensions of the standard multispecies coalescent as implemented in Bayesian phylogenetic methods for analytical species delimitation and phylogeny inference under migration.

During my postgraduate education, I received the Best MSc Talk award at the joint conference of the South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) and Southern African Society for Systematic Biology (SASSB) 2019, the Best Young Botanist award at the SAAB conference 2020, and the Best PhD talk award at the SASSB conference 2023. 

I am a New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) member, a member of the SASSB, SAAB, and Society for Systematic Biology, and a recipient of the Nilsson-Ehle Research Endowment. I am a collaborator on 1000 Genomes South Africa.
