Lizel Lloyd is a neonatologist and researcher dedicated to reducing neonatal mortality and infections. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Pretoria and has been a consultant neonatologist at Tygerberg Hospital for the last ten years. Passionate about antimicrobial stewardship, dr Lloyd has pioneered a new diagnostic algorithm for the diagnosis of neonatal infection in low-resource settings, and completed her PhD thesis on the topic to Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam
