OVERVIEW

My research focuses on developing sustainable, ecologically based crop protection strategies for perennial agricultural systems, particularly deciduous fruit orchards and citrus production in South Africa. The overarching goal is to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides while maintaining economically viable crop production through the integration of biological control, cultural control and agroecological approaches. My research also explores the ecology and implementation of biological control agents, with particular emphasis on parasitoids and entomopathogens that can be integrated into pest management programmes. In addition to applied pest management research, I am involved in arthropod biodiversity studies in agroecosystems, insect diagnostics, and taxonomic investigations. These activities contribute to improved pest identification, monitoring, and decision-making, supporting growers and industry stakeholders with accurate information for effective pest management.
