OVERVIEW
I completed my PhD in 2008 under the incredible mentorship of the late Prof Timothy Egan at the University of Cape Town. Thereafter, I joined the Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science in 2009 as a tenured lecturer, and began my independent reseasrch/academic carreer. I was promoted to my current position of Senior Lecturer in 2012. In 2024/2025, I was privileged to be awarded a Simons Foundation Pivot Fellowship - this has given me the opportunity to spend a year in the laboratory of Prof Iqbal Hamza at the University of Maryland Baltimore's School of Medicine, where I have been able to expand my knowledge and expertise with respect to probing heme trafficking and hemozoin formation in mamalian models.
